We can trace Millfield's history back to 1745, the year bonny Prince Charlie marched south of the Border!

At about that time George Mill married Elizabeth Thompson and they lived at Millfield with their ever growing family Thomas, Patrick, Agnes, Margaret, Janet, Sophia and Ann.

Smailholm Tower -an ancient restored peel tower is just up the hill and the Eildons, Trimontium in Roman times, can be seen across the fields

The Romans had a large fort at Trimontium (three mountains) -now near Melrose, and recent research suggests that a young cavalry officer honed his equestrian and military skills there before becoming Britain's most famous king - King Arthur.

The ancient site of Roxburgh Castle, near Kelso fits historically and romantically into being the site for Camelot and throughout the region there are tantalising names and clues pointing to a more than romantic connection.

There is so much to see and so many exciting things to do. If you like history visit Melrose and its beautiful 12th century abbey, and Kelso where its abbey dates back to 1126. At Abbotsford you can visit the home of Sir Walter Scott and Scott's View, a beautiful panoramic view over the Eildons and the Tweed which was a favourite of Scott's, is only 4 miles away.

The recently restored monument to William Wallace, victorious hero at the battle of Stirling and friend and advisor to King Robert the Bruce, stands on a hill top above another Border Abbey, Dryburgh, 6 miles from Millfield.
