By road

From the North

Follow the A68 to St. Boswells. Directly opposite the Buccleugh Arms Hotel turn left into St. Boswells on the B6404. * Follow the road for 4.7miles. Turn right at sign-post: National Cycle Route 1, Makerstoun and Millfield, Mertoun Estate. Pass the bungalow on corner, and large grain shed. Millfield and The Old Threshing Mill are on your left.

From the South

Either follow the M6,and then the A7 to Hawick. Follow the A698 signposted Jedburgh/Kelso until you reach the A68, turn left (north)until you reach St. Boswells. At the Buccleugh Arms Hotel turn right into St. Boswells on B6404. Then proceed as at* above.
NB when you first reach St. Boswells ignore the road signposted Kelso A699.

Or follow the A1/A1M to Morpeth, then the A697 to Wooler and Coldstream. Then take the A698 to Kelso. Leave Kelso on the A6089, signposted Edinburgh. After 1 mile turn left on the B6397 signposted St. Boswells. After 2.5 miles turn left at crossroads onto B6404, St. Boswells. After 2 miles turn left signposted National Cycle Route1, Millfield, Mertoun Farms Makerstoun. Pass bungalow on corner, a large grain shed then Millfield and The Old Threshing Mill are on your left hand side.

NB on your way out of Kelso you will see 2 earlier Makerstoun signs. It is better to ignore them.
